BNC Student Company.

It takes me 45 minutes with no traffic to make it from my place to Ballet Nouveau Colorado (BNC). Last Wednesday I left my house at 4:15 pm to give my self plenty of time to make it there, drag the equipment in, and to begin setting up at 5:30. I had an hour to set up before I began photographing the dancers. After some traffic and road construction I finally arrived at BNC at precisely 5:30pm. I walked in, greeted Ashley (the one I've been in contact and working with since February), and began to drag things in with the help of the fabulous Ashley.

After the set up was complete, all I had to do was wait for the school director, Julia, and the dancers to arrive. We started right on time and got straight to the point. The dancers' were on their best behavior and had enough discipline that when Julia said do this, they did. And not to mention... all with in the first 5 frames! They were so fabulous to work with. It made my job such a breeze.

I've watched a few of these select dancers from the Student Company dance during class before and they never disappoint. I am always blown away by their skills, grace, and ease in which they moved. It was such a pleasure to work with them and to capture just a small glimpse of what they really can do. Below is a slideshow with the final edits from the shoot with the Student Company. I think they did a wonderful job and love the outcome of the shoot.

This is the BNC building.

This is as I was setting up... I wanted to show you what I had to work with. Huge studio space, great lighting, and lots of room made this an easy space to photograph in.

Coming soon... New Business cards & Project Studio!

2011 Colorado State Track & Field Championships.

A week ago I had the pleasure of working with Jason Powers and Barry Wallace at this years Track & Field Championships on May 19-21st in Lakewood, CO. I was able to work both as a photographer and at the booth selling images to the loads of clients that continually came through. I don't think I've been to an event where there was this much of an interest in the event photography. It was amazing. It's also great to see a striving sports business in this economy.

Until this moment, I didn't have the chance to photograph Track & Field and was so excited to get this opportunity. I was stationed mostly on shot put, long jump, and triple jump, but at one point the meet was between flights/heats, and it left me amazed at the other events going on around me so I captured a few of the high jump and track. It was a great experience and look forward to more of these events... maybe this time not in the rain. Yes, I was a shooter on Thursday and we got rained on. Thank goodness for my cheap rain gear and a bit of luck haha It did make some cool gray backgrounds though!

I can't believe high jumpers... I am constantly amazed at how they can use the pole and how far it bends without breaking and on top of it making it over the top bar. Sheesh. Talent.

It's funny see the faces of athletes. It's something we constantly joke about (but understand it happens) in gymnastics, but it was funny to hear the girls and some of the boys complain about their faces. Well, this isn't your Senior Portrait... this is you pushing the limits of human capability and yeah, you're probably going to make a funny face. I wish I would have had an opportunity to get some of these photos of me, but until recently, photography and gymnastics (especially at high school level) you don't' get the chance to get.

And triple jump... My uncle once tried to teach me the three jump/skip/hurdle ... yeah, wasn't able to catch on that. Again... these guys are talented. Sometimes it makes me wish I would have attempted other sports, but the passion I had (still have) for gymnastics, took over. At least now I'm able to experience the other sports.

Stay tuned! More images from BNC's Student Company and information about becoming a 2012 Senior Rep for Jessi Dalton Photography!

My First Magazine Cover!

I know that most of you have probably already seen this since I posted on Facebook as soon as I saw it, but I wanted to share with you all my first editorial cover! I was hired to photograph at the Men's 2011 NCAA Gymnastics Championships. It was a 3 day event and I still can't believe I was able to go down on the floor at this event. It's been such an honor getting to work in a field I love and have a burning passion for.

I was contacted about using 8 of my images for the magazine. I was anxious to see how it would turn out and was told they may use some of the images for a cover. I can't believe how amazing it all turned out! I am so blessed!

USAG Magazine
(My photos are the left and bottom right. Photos of the 1st place team and AA winner, Sam Mikulak)

I know this is really difficult to see on here, but it's the contents and credit pages! Finally get to see my images and name in print in a National Magazine!

Here is the inside spread I was given. The final result is incredible! I can't believe their my images :) I'm still in awe about this whole thing... oh and I've yet to hold a copy in my hands! Don't worry... I'll be getting a few copies in studio soon!

If you'd like to check out the magazine for yourself, USAG has created an online version.

Wow. Amazing!
Hope you all have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

Garcia Wedding.

Happy Thursday to everyone! I'd love to share some of the great products I've recently worked on, but haven't been able to share until today! I was waiting to show the newly weds their final images from their big day before I released them online. I met with Chelsea this morning and am so excited to show you the new wedding product being offered!! Please stop by studio to look at this in person!

This can be ordered in various sizes, however this studio sample I've order is a 12x12 Album tucked safely into a black bow bag. Here's the album in it's bag...
Detail shot of the bow
The front of the album... It has a padded cover!
Side of the album...
An inside page... I love the college of images of the bride and groom getting ready.
Another great feature... the pages lay flat!

The third great thing about this product is that the images are printed on a water color paper (the texture is amazing!) and the pages are adhered to a black cardboard making each page thick.
One of my favorite spreads... love the large image :)
Me holding the new product in studio... you can see how large this album is!
Front of the Album
Back of the album
And finally... a slide show of the final images! So happy to share these with you all. I hope you enjoy!

Jessi Dalton Photography is now booking weddings for 2011 and 2012!
Also booking: Family Portraits, Engagements, and looking for 2012 High school Seniors Reps! Contact me if you're interested in any of the above.

- Coming soon... track and field, BNC student company, more custom products, and USAG Magazine.

Baby Cort.

I had a wonderful time with the Burton's. It had been so long since I had last seen Bridget or Scott and was so excited when I was welcomed into their home to photograph baby Cort. It was great to be able to catch up with them, tell old stories, and be able to share in the joy and love of there handsome new baby boy!

Cort is quite the mover making my job a tad bit difficult, but I love a good challenge. He also didn't want to sleep so we got a ton of his big blue eyes wide open and just a few of sleepy baby shots. This was my second newborn session and I love the improvement I've made, but I know I still have some learning to do... it all comes with experience! Looking for some more newborns so if you know one, send 'em my way :)

Cort was born on April 19th and when I had the chance to meet this little guy, he was already 3 weeks old! Here are some additional images from our wonderful session!

Senior Portraits in Reno.

I have never met Casey before this shoot. It all started when I was called up about two and a half weeks ago to come out to Reno and photograph two Seniors who would be graduating this June. One of them was a friend of the family and the other was her boyfriend. I gladly accepted! I have been waiting to get some more portraits booked and was so happy to see that things were in bloom. I didn't know what to expect foliage wise, but I am more than happy with the results. I love Spring!

So, this was the first time I'd met Casey. He was such a pleasure to shoot with his easygoing attitude. He was willing to do just about whatever it took to get the shot and was the master of going from a smile to a straight face! I swear he practiced in the mirror. Casey is a 2011 graduating Senior from Spanish Springs High School and is planning to attend UNR in the fall where he will study Business. Like I mentioned above, I had two sessions. Casey wasn't alone on this photo shoot... he had his girlfriend there too. She's been a friend of my family for phew... since I was little. I did gymnastics with her sister and can't believe how much she's grown up! I was so thrilled to work with them.

This is Jaimee. It's hard to believe that just two days before, she literally went face to face with a diving board. When I was about to board my plane, I get a call. I was so worried that they had canceled and I was about to make a trip for nothing, but instead I got a panic called about how she was on her way to the ER with what they think was a broken jaw and nose with some road burn up her face. I felt horrible! At least she'd have memorable photos and look back and laugh one day, but it ended up that she didn't break a thing! She did have a tiny scratch running down her nose, but no raccoon eyes! Phew! Here are some additional images from her session. Isn't she gorgeous?!

I love details and I wanted to do more of them, however this was the only one I did. I like the outcome... it's not traditional senior portraits, but I love it.

My trip to Reno was full of laughs. I had three great sessions which consisted of two senior portraits (those feature above) and baby Cort (who I will blog about next). I had one other shoot planned... a maternity shoot with a good friend. This session ended up being canceled due to her going into labor! I had to fly back home and just after I arrived in Denver she ended up having baby Emma. I'm bummed I didn't get to meet her, but look forward to seeing here in about 3 weeks when I return to Reno!

Congratulations & Good Luck to Jaimee & Casey!

Next up: Baby Cort!

Kendall.

I am constantly amazed at how much personality little ones can have! This one is so full of life and attitude! She is a princess and isn't afraid to show you just how much of one she really is in front of the camera! Kendall just celebrated her birthday and she got this awesome ladybug swing for the tree in their back yard. It was the first thing she wanted to do when I arrived at her house. After a few pushes and an underdog, I was able to capture a few shots of the doll I have gotten to know over the past 6ish months.

Diggin' her dress.
She wasn't into the whole photographing thing, until I let her go behind the camera... It was so funny to watch this delicate girl try to man handle this big camera, flash, and lens! I wish I had a photo of that...

I love candid moments... As I was taking this photo, I wondered, "What's she thinking about?" I found this one to be so calm and relaxing. Not how our play dates usually are... good thing this only lasted a moment or two, then it was back to our fun filled evening!

You can't tell she loves it can you?

Coming Soon... Senior Portraits! Stay tuned :)
